According to Helsingin Sanomat, climate change is definitely taking its toll. This winter has been between 4.5 to 6 °C warmer than the historical average.
No wonder I still haven't used my proper winter coat (nicknamed the bear for a reason) very much so far. This weekend it's been snowing, so I hope it improves, as I didn't move back from Belgium to have the same weather again ;-).
Even though the sea is starting to get frozen, the fact is that proper winter as known in this latitudes has been lacking. Snow has been rather sporadic and not permanent, and we’ve been hovering between +3 & -3°C for a month now.
An article that quite surprised me in Wired about the Bali summit mentions that Mexico is actually doing quite a bit to tackle climate change and is leading the efforts to cap emmissions, having started at home.
The Missioners of Guadalupe won the Ohtli award, given to those who raise the profile of the country abroad, for their charity activities in Kenya. I met one of them in Brussels half a year ago, and he told me the challenges they had working there.
This autumn has been unseasonably warm and rainy here in Southern Finland (we're still above freezing point). According to this story published in Helsingin Sanomat, it's only going to get worse in the coming years.
As mentioned last year, the weather is really going crazy. Mexico City is having sub-zero temperatures in the morning with possibility of snow (it's actually colder there than in Helsinki in the morning, even though by noon the thermometer reaches 15°C).
Hope it gets better by Christmas when I'm there, but of course that's not probable.
And it didn't truly arrive. After a sunny week, this week has been rather cold, hitting 0°C during the night. The calendar says its spring, but the weather has been rather awful. Hope it improves.
